Society loves to keep us feeling rushed. The seemingly never ending things we ‘should’ be doing at whatever age we are. These unrealistic expectations placing pressure and anxiety into our minds and hearts. Add the pressure social media brings to the table, it’s no wonder more people these days have mental health issues than ever before.
Luckily, yoga helps alleviate some of these societal pressures. Reminding us of the strength and beauty we each already hold inside of us.
“Your life does not get better by chance,
it gets better by change.”
I believe people have more control over their lives than they think. So often, people are quick to complain they want to change their lifestyle but don’t ‘have the time’. However, if they took a closer look at their daily activities, it always surprises them how much time they spend doing unnecessary or unproductive things they wish they didn’t. Scrolling through social media, other phone consuming activities, worrying about the past/future, mindless snacking, just to name a few. Instead of participating in these activities, one could be filling their time with meditation, journaling/reflection, holistic health research, yoga, or even meal planning. Just an hour each day spent doing these activities can change a persons overall lifestyle.
“It does not matter how slowly you go,
as long as you do not stop.”
It all starts with the desire to change. Without the want or need seed planted in your mind, nothing with grow or come to fruition. I feel it’s also important to set a clear intention for what you wish to change about your life to bring more balance to it. Writing your goal out and ways to achieve it can be very useful. For example; if you wish to bring more mental clarity into your life with a regular meditation practice just start with 1-5 minutes each day around the same time. Whatever you can work into your schedule. And when you feel comfortable, you can expand the time. One of the hardest parts is the consistency which comes from your own desire to do this & your self discipline. What effort you are willing to put in to achieve your goal. So, ask yourself – what can you do to bring more balance to your life?
